The Future of Street Lighting

Public lighting is a crucial visual aid. It reduces road accidents, increases safety and security, and ultimately attracts investment and growth to city areas. However, it can significantly contribute to a municipality’s electricity bill. Energy efficient public lighting offers a solution to reduce electricity consumption, expenditure and reduce CO2 emissions. Existing non‐efficient lights can be replaced with modern energy efficient light‐emitting diode (LED) luminaires, and energy efficient lights can also be specified for new installations.

Manufacturers were invited to become involved with the site though a public invitation. The first phase of the LED Walkway saw two developers donating lights..

The innovation Hub

Partners and Initiators

The LED Walkway at The Innovation Hub was inspired by a similar project located in the center of the city of Berlin. Here, 184 energy efficiency lights illuminate a 1.5‐kilometer pathway where visitors can learn about different energy efficient lighting technologies. The Technical University of Berlin, an important partner of the project, hosts the Chair of Lighting Technology which was founded over 125 year ago as the first Chair of Lighting in the world.
